Ascension Seton, based in Austin, Texas, has provided thousands of associates and caregivers a rewarding career in healthcare since 1902. I am humbled and honored to win this award. Location: Seton Southwest Join Ascension as a Occupational Therapist and have the opportunity to work in a culture that focuses on the mind, body and spirit of our patients and associates. “I do love being a nurse, it is overwhelming love and joy. “When I won the DAISY Award it showed that patients and families do appreciate the care you provide to them,” said Maggie. Maggie would poke in and see if my husband needed anything and she brought me an extra blanket.īeing recognized with a DAISY award is always a treat, but especially so during a pandemic when nurses have been pushed to their limits. She even had time to chat with us, we had some laughs. She gave him his medicine late in the day, so I appreciate that. The wife commented that Maggie was always in good spirits and had a positive attitude and that no detail when it came to her husband’s care was too small. Maggie was nominated for a DAISY in 2021 by the wife of a patient. After working more than a decade as an RN in the telemetry unit at ASMCA, she joined the PICU at Ascension Seton Southwest in 2019. After taking time off to care for her children, she returned to ASMCA in 2001 and went back to nursing school. Deeply devoted to the Ascension Seton mission, Maggie started at Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin (ASMCA) in 1998 as a lab technician. Ascension Seton Southwest’s PICU nurse, Maggie Barrera, RN, is a two-time DAISY winner and the 2020 Nurse of the Year.
